Honey, What's That On The Windshield?

Today the decomposing body of a 60 ton sperm whale exploded on a street in Taipei. That must have been some incredible mess! It would not have been a good moment to be a pedestrian.

Goat Girl

If anyone watched American Idol this evening, and saw the girl do the goat impression, I thought that was the most horrific and disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life.

Is Anyone Out There?

Apparantly, the second Mars rover Opportunity is having technical problems as well. This leads me to a perplexing question: Is it insane to think that perhaps, just perhaps, there may be something on Mars playing a colossal joke on us? Maybe everytime the camera on one of those rovers is facing the other way, something tinkers with them just a little, enough to leave them semi-functioning, but also enough to torture hundreds of NASA scientists who have spent millions of dollars to send those little remotes to Mars in the first place. I know I would do it.

Home Sweet Home

Well, I have been promising people for a while that I would let them see pictures of my new house. I figured rather than send out a ton of e-mails, I would post the pics on here so people could see them. So here are three pictures of the exterior. I will update again in a couple of weeks with some interior pictures. Some background on the house: It was built in 1812, and is one of the oldest sandstone houses in Potsdam NY. It has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is in excellent condition and just needs some cosmetic updating on the interior. If you look in the bottom right corner of the last picture, you can see some of my garage. Hope you enjoy, I will post more soon!

Pepsi + Frozen = No Good!

Apparantly there is something wrong with me, because I didn't realize that opening a partially frozen Diet Pepsi was a bad thing. I had no idea at all, until it exploded everywhere like some sort of crazed madman foaming at the mouth! In a matter of a split second my sink, myself and surrounding countertop and walls were drenched in Pepsi splatter! However hard I tried to screw the cap back on to stop it, the Pepsi was just too powerful. Lesson learned, I guess. Did you ever have one of those days when you feel you need someone to follow you around and say "don't do that!" all day?

Absolutely Fabulous Sweety Darling!

abfab.jpg
Absolutely Fabulous is a show that has enthralled me for years! The first time I ever saw it was during my semester abroad in London in 1995. I took a Women's Studies course on "The British Female Celebrity" (I was the only guy in the class). The professor showed us a clip from AbFab to get our response. Most of the other women in the class were appalled, yet I fell in love with Patsy and Edina on the spot! I then spent the better part of 5 years trying to live their lifestyle, but that is for another entry! After returning to the States, I thought I would never see the show again, mostly because of U.S. censorship and the show's 40 minute time slot. Well, I have been surprised over the years, as the show has been carried by Comedy Central and now the Oxygen network. I don't know what it is about the show, but it just kills me! Maybe because it plays to a fantasy that I and many others share, that of being able to say whatever you want and do whatever you want and damn the consequences! Last night's episode, "Huntin', Shootin' and Fishin'" was about the funniest I have seen yet, especially the pheasant sequence. The show is currently airing on the Oxygen network Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Check it out, and see if you fall under it's spell!

Helmut Newton 1921-2004

nPoV_066_Newton.jpg
Helmut Newton the famous and often controversial fashion photographer, died Friday in Los Angeles at the age of 83 after an apparent car crash caused by a heart attack. Newton was best known for his fashion work and nude female photographs, often done in shocking locations or involving shocking props, such as wheelchairs or leg braces. He was one of my early photographic inspirations, not necessarily for his subject matter, but for the spirit and often surreal nature of his work, which I found fascinating. His style and influence can be found among many photographers still working today.

Goodbye Captain Kangaroo

captain-kangaroo.jpg
I am saddened to write that this morning, Captain Kangaroo, also known as Bob Keeshan, died in Vermont at the age of 76 apparantly after a long illness. I used to watch the Captain Kangaroo show every morning when I was a child, and always found comfort in his cheerful disposition and colorful assortment of characters. The two I remember the most vividly were Mr. Moose and of course, Mr. Green Jeans. I never grew tired of watching all the ping-pong balls fall from the ceiling onto Mr. Moose. It saddens me to think that the quality of children's t.v. has gone so far down hill, and that the passing of icons Captain Kangaroo and Fred Rogers leaves a gigantic hole that no one seems eager to try to fill. Captain Kangaroo will be greatly missed.

I love The Simpsons, especially Ralph Wiggum! No matter how many times I see them, I never get tired of them!

Move On!

I urge all of you who are interested in political change and maybe want answers as to how the hell our country has gotten into the political state it's in to check out MoveOn.org Democracy in Action. I find it an interesting and informative site for someone like myself, who admittedly is not completely politically saavy, but is interested in what is going on. I do care about my country and our government, and am tired of sitting through the bald face lies of our current administration. Especially check out the contest winners from the Bush in 30 Seconds contest! There are some really good and thought provoking ads that made the contest. So, sorry to sound "preachy", but check these out if you get a chance! Hopefully the next election will see some much needed changes.

"Somewhere, Over The Rainbow..."

There are a whole hell of a lot of people who can't sing!!! If you watch "American Idol", then you realized this tonight. I just cannot believe that some of these people are so far out of touch with reality. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having faith in your abilities, but you have to have some to have faith in! I thought the guy who sang "Over The Rainbow" tonight had to be on drugs, for what else could explain the bizarre acrobatics his eyes performed? Or the guy who sang "Sweet Home Alabama"- he was crushed! Yet he couldn't remember the words to the song! And he cried after! Madness! Madness!!!

Kidney Stones Suck!!!

If you enjoy the feeling of a small animal with millions of razor sharp teeth trying to tear it's way out of your side, then kidney stones are right up your alley! If you don't think you would enjoy this, then you are like me! Here's hoping my kidney either falls our or explodes or something soon!

"A grown-man baby"

If you are not watching Curb Your Enthusiasm you should be! It is one of the funniest t.v. shows on cable. It stars Larry David, the creator of Seinfeld, and is about his life, kind of a mockumentary. It's like Seinfeld on angel dust! Sunday nights at 9:30. The show just gets more and more twisted!

The Offending Noise Maker!

Here he is. He was quite a bit fatter here. He has been on a diet, and lost three pounds. Maybe that is why he is serenading me.

A Hellish Chorus Of Meows

So far, on my unexpected day off, I have been treated to a non-stop barrage of loud meows from my cat. Now, he may be overjoyed that I am home, but I feel it is more likely that he is trying to get me to feed him. He knows he gets fed one can of food at 6 am and another at 4 pm. I don't know why the excess cries of hunger today. I love cats, and can deal with meows, but a neverending chorus begins to get unnerving.

No Work Today!!!!!

Yeahhhh! I get to stay home today! Which means I can do about a million things around the house. It's funny, whenever I have a day off, it seems I end up busier than if I was working.

Spalding Gray

It's terrible about actor Spalding Gray being reported missing. I can't imagine what his family must be going through. Although his film roles have been supporting ones, he has always been instantly recognizable to me, and I have enjoyed his performances. I hope there is some closure to the case soon. There has always been something terribly disturbing to me about the term "missing" and its implications in general. Maybe that's why I am a bit of a control freak, I can't stand loose ends!

Cold!!!!! Part 2

When will this cold end? Everyday when I step outside I feel as though parts of me are dying! I expect to get to work and find that my toes or my nose has turned black, like those poor people that got lost on Everest. Then they will just snap off and everyone will go "ewwwwww"! This must be like what mammals felt like during the ice age.

From "The Onion"

Grandmother Can't Believe They Let People With Tattoos On Price Is Right
GREAT BEND, KS—Grandmother of nine Sadie Grunfelder, 71, expressed surprise Tuesday when a tattooed contestant was allowed to play "Buy Or Sell" on the long-running game show The Price Is Right. "I can't believe that Bob Barker would let someone with a tattoo up on stage," Grunfelder said from her recliner. "I would think they'd at least make him cover up that terrible thing. What if there are children somewhere, home sick from school, watching this show?" Luckily, Grunfelder's two other means of access to the outside world—the AARP newsletter and reruns of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman—remain tattoo-free.

This seems very familiar to me......

COLD!!!!!!

I cannot believe how cold it is today!! When I went out to warm up my car this morning, it was like my whole system just went instantly numb in defense! According to my thermometer, it was -20 when I got up at 6. I hope it at least makes it to zero before I go home this afternoon.

A day at home....

Well, things are finally ready to go as I sit here at home recovering from what the doctors speculate may have been a mild case of kidney stones. Mild or not, they are not fun. I suppose I should get myself together and accomplish something with this new house today, so maybe after some home made soup (thanks mom) for lunch, I will do just that!
