Silence = Death.

Today is World AIDS Day. As I sit here writing this, I think back to the early 80's, when as an elementary school child I first started hearing about AIDS. First it was "gay cancer", then AIDS, then HIV resulting in AIDS, all primarily linked to homosexuals in our world wide media. It would take several more years before "regular" people who had contracted the virus through unfortunate blood transfusions or sharing needles or unprotected sex would show the world that not only gay men could contract AIDS. For many people, however, AIDS is still seen as a primarily "gay" disease. How unfortunate this lack of education is, and how deadly. AIDS has changed the face of our planet, in so many ways. It has changed the way many people have sex. It has changed many policies and practices in our medical system. It has reinforced the need for non-biased education, truly one of the best ways to fight this disease. If one tries to really grasp the immensity of the destrcution this disease has done, how many people's lives have been changed because of this disease, all of the suffering people have had to endure, it is overwhelming. It is like trying to grasp the concept of infinity.

So I ask myself, what can I, as one person, do? Well, I can continue to keep myself educated. I can help to educate others about this disease. I can continue to practice safe sex to keep myself and others safe from this disease. I can help to dispel ugly and dangerous mistruths that only certain kinds of people can get AIDS. I can do whatever it takes to make sure people that live with this disease are not made to suffer by being ostricized by society. For really they are already suffering enough.

If I can do these things, I believe they will make a difference. So imagine if everyone else would try to do these same things? I think a lot of difference could be made.

Happy Thanksgiving!! (after the fact...)

So, I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I had a wonderful dinner with family, went Christmas shopping with my mom Friday and went out last night and caught up with old friends. A good time so far, except for the yard work today.

Anyway, I wanted to share the following video with you, cause I think it is awesome.

Photos, Hearts, Wiring, etc...

Sorry it's been a few days, here are the updates:

Wearing a heart monitor for a month to figure out my issues with palpitations and shortness of breath. Apparently I have some sort of "wiring" problem. I feel like Darth Vader with this thing stuck to me.

Persistent and loud ringing in my right ear. Very annoying. Any suggestions?

Yay!!! The Democrats won! Now lets hope they can get their shit together and keep things on track, or else every conservative in the country will blame every problem for the next two years on the Democrats.

Still raining here. I feel as though I should build an ark and start gathering pairs of animals. But only the ones I like!

I will soon be doing and posting a lot more photography. I miss it and need to do more of it. I would like to morph this blog from what it is now into a photo blog. More images, less words. Although if you know me well, you know that there will still be some words.

VOTE!

It's election day kids!! Get out there and vote! It doesn't matter what you believe, it doesn't matter what you are for or against, get out there and make your voices heard! No excuses, no "I don't have time" or "My vote doesn't count anyway", just get out there and do it! Let's not let a bunch of backwards, oppressive, hate mongering losers continue to run this country!

Wait, was that last bit a little political? Oh well.

Who Me?

new_hair.jpg

Isn't that the most pitiful expression on my face?? Well anyway, I told you all I was growing my hair out, and today I got it shaped up a little bit after getting highlights and lowlights last week. What do you think? I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I think I might let it get a little longer, but I don't want it pony-tail length (been there, done that, too much hassle!). All I have to say is thank God for hair razoring, especially if you have wool on your head like I do! I was thinking perhaps I should write about something else, but instead I will be selfish and just write all about my hair!

Happy Halloween!

me_andy.JPG

Happy Halloween all you delightful ghosts, goblins and groovie ghoulies!! I myself will be handing out delicious, totally non-nutritious candies to all the little monsters in my town. Hopefully I will not find myself too terrorized. I have not yet carved my pumpkin, as I feared for it's outdoor safety prior to All Hallow's Eve! I am hoping there are still some good carving ones out there to be found and not just pathetic mutant pumpkins. Some college kid will probably steal it and smash it tonight anyway! Damn kids!!

In other news I am forcing myself to drink at least 64 ounces of water every day hence I turn into a lizard! My skin is so dry I fear a gypsy has put a curse on me to turn me into Lizzie Grubman! Google her if you dare!! Of course, with drinking so much water the bathroom has become my second home!

In another non-related tangent, I am growing my hair out. It grows too damn fast to keep it short. I need advice on a product that is going to give my curly hair control without being crunchy, so it can be wild and curly and messy! I'm thinking perhaps some sort of spray wax? Let me know folks, baby's not getting any younger or any less single!!

pole dance game family

Tesco has been forced to remove a pole-dancing kit from the toys and games section of its website after it was accused of "destroying children's innocence".

The Tesco Direct site advertises the kit with the words, "Unleash the sex kitten inside...simply extend the Peekaboo pole inside the tube, slip on the sexy tunes and away you go!

"Soon you'll be flaunting it to the world and earning a fortune in Peekaboo Dance Dollars".

The £49.97 kit comprises a chrome pole extendible to 8ft 6ins, a 'sexy dance garter' and a DVD demonstrating suggestive dance moves.

The kit, condemned as 'extremely dangerous' by family campaigners yesterday, was discovered by mother of two Karen Gallimore who was searching for Christmas gifts for her two daughters, Laura 10, and Sarah, 11.

Mrs Gallimore, 33, of Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, said yesterday: "I'm no prude, but any children can go on there and see it. It's just not on."

Dr Adrian Rogers, of family campaigning group Family Focus said yesterday that the kit would "destroy children's lives".

He said: "Tesco is Britain's number one chain, this is extremely dangerous. It is an open invitation to turn the youngest children on to sexual behaviour.

"This will be sold to four, five and six-year olds. This is a most dangerous toy that will contribute towards destroying children's innocence."

He added: "Children are being encouraged to dance round a pole which is interpreted in the adult world as a phallic symbol.

"It ought to be stopped, it really requires the intervention of members of Parliament. This should only be available to the most depraved people who want to corrupt their children."

Tesco today agreed to remove the product from the Toy section of the site, but said it will remain on sale as a Fitness Accessory, despite the fact that the product description invites users to "unleash the sex kitten inside".

Also on sale on the Tesco website is a strip poker game, "Peekaboo Poker" which is illustrated by a picture of a reclining woman in underwear.

The card game is is described as a game that "risks the risque and brings a whole lot of naughtiness to the table.

"Played with a unique pack of Peekaboo Boy and Girl playing cards, the aim of the game is to win as many Peekaboo chips as possible and turn them into outrageously naughty fun."

The pole dance kit is the latest item to fuel allegations that major retailers increasingly sell products which "sexualise" young children such as T-shirts with suggestive messages.

In recent years Asda was forced to remove from sale pink and black lace lingerie, including a push-up bra to girls as young as nine.

Next had to remove t-shirts on sale for girls as young as six with the slogan "so many boys, so little time."

And BHS and others came under fire for selling padded bras embellished with a "Little Miss Naughty" logo and t-shirts with a Playboy-style bunny that said "I love boys...They are stupid."

Tesco last night denied the pole dancing kit was sexually oriented and said it was clearly marked for "adult use".

A spokesman added: "Pole dancing is an increasing exercise craze. This item is for people who want to improve their fitness and have fun at the same time."

"Marriage, or something like it..."

So, New Jersey basically says that gays and lesbians should be entitled to the sames rights as married couples, but perhaps just not the term marriage. So, how do we feel about this? Well, I suppose this is the dreaded glass half empty, glass half full conundrum. It is a great step forward for gays and lesbians that someone out there wants to grant us and our partners rights, rights that any heterosexual couple in our country gets to enjoy (although divorce rates might make you believe a lot of married people aren't enjoying much of anything). But why the possessiveness over the term marriage? A political lady on NPR this morning (sorry, I don't remember her name) stated that "the law needs to define marriage as something special only a man and a woman can do", and then said a lot of stuff about procreating and that marriage needs to be protected. Protected from what? All of us crazy, salivating gays and lesbians bent on destroying heterosexual marriages and then the world? I personally have always associated love with the term marriage, not necessarily gender. I mean, as I was being brought up I was taught that men and women fell in love, got married, and sometimes had children. You see, it was always the love part that came first, or so I thought. Now that I am no longer a child, I know that things are not always that simple, but I still believe love comes first. Is love exclusive to only heterosexual people? If so, I guess I slipped by because I have felt love, great love actually, and also the other not so nice things that can go hand in hand with love such as great pain. I hope to feel love again in my life, love that goes beyond all of the amazing friendships I have in my life. A person can have many, many close friends, yet sometimes still feel lonely. So when love comes my way again, I hope I have the right to marry just like anyone else does. I've always loved NY, and never really thought about NJ. But let me tell you, if NY doesn't get it's act together, it may find itself without one slightly crazy marriage destroying gay guy!

"You're not too bright...Just the way I like 'em!"

So, what a past couple of weeks! Work, illness, work, illness. Starting to feel better, just really tired. Tired seems to be my theme this year. If this year of my life was going to be a movie sequal it would have the sub-heading "The Year Of Tired". It snowed here last Friday, and I wanted to lay down and cry. After 30 something years you would think I was used to it by now, but I never seem to get used to winter here. Someday, when I am old and grizzled, I will move to a warmer climate. Or maybe if I win the lottery. Or hook up with a rich doctor. Anyone know any rich doctors? Who are youngish and attractive, not old and skeevy. I'm not Anna Nicole!

Spent much of yesterday battling the evil empire, and while I didn't lose in the long run, I still feel like I came up short. If that last statement feels cryptic, contact me and I'll fill you in. Sometimes you just can't put things in writing anywhere, no matter how much you want to! But I will keep battling until the last remnants of the evil empire are scattered to the winds!

So, anyway, for you viewing pleasure, I post the following "bon mot" for you! Enjoy!
